Dialog tops ‘Business Top Ten Awards’

Dialog Telekom grabbed the number one slot of the ‘Business Top Ten Awards’, selected by “Business Today” magazine, presided by President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the Temple Trees yesterday.

These accolades to celebrate Corporate excellence were awarded to the business fraternity in recognition of their outstanding contribution for the well-being of the nation, for the years 2006/2007 were granted, following in a transparent and an open process.

The Venerable Galeboda Gnaneswara Thera of Gangaramaya addressing the ceremony urged the business community, the ‘Top 10 awardees’ in particular, to assist the country’s universal policy of uplifting who are less privileged in their requirements and needs, especially in an era where the Government was unable to engage in social development work, due to its other commitments and priorities.

Sponsorship cheques for school development programmes in the Hambantota district were also handed over to the President by the respective corporate representatives.

A noteworthy feature this year was the shift of Distilleries Company, from last years first place to third.

CEO, Dialog Telekom, Hans Wijesuriya received the award for Dailog Telekom.

When contacted Group Chief Marketing Officer, Dialog Telekom Nusad Perera, said that Dialog was happy to receive this award. “We believe this was possible only due to the 4.5 million Sri Lankans who have placed their trust in us,” he said.

Dialog is the largest listed company on the Colombo Stock Exchange in terms of Market Capitalisation of Rs 188.79 billion.

The Company has the distinction of becoming the first company in Sri Lanka to achieve a market capitalisation exceeding US $ one billion.

Sri Lanka Telecom is one of the country’s most valuable blue chip companies with an annual turnover in excess of Rs 40 billion grabbed the second place at the event.

Distilleries Company achieved the third place. Other corporate winners who clinched the prestigious awards in ascending order were as follows. John Keels Holdings, Aitken Spence, Hatton National Bank, Commercial Bank, NDB Bank, Ceylon Tobacco Company and the Bukit Darah.
